Test SOS and ALL OK without panic
A useful test checks the route without creating a false alarm. Agree with contacts first, use a test message, stop before calling real services and check receipt, outcome and fallback. The exercise should teach the group what to do, not stage an uncontrolled emergency.
Set purpose and boundaries
Write what you will verify: SOS, ALL OK, received text, receipt or backup contact. Name participants, start and end time. A test does not measure family safety and does not authorise involving emergency services, neighbours or uninformed people.
Announce the test and get consent
Tell every recipient before sending and ask for explicit agreement. Set a phrase such as “TEST, no emergency” and a time when they can respond. Do not use a real event, ambiguous wording or a contact who has not agreed: clarity and consent protect trust.
Prepare the phone and action
Check network, battery, permissions, recipients and message. SOS and ALL OK show confirmation with a countdown: read the action and stop if anything is wrong. The emergency-call button is manual; do not touch it during testing or simulate a real call.
Read receipt and outcome
Follow the receipt after confirmation: distinguish request accepted, notifications prepared, partial outcome and unconfirmed result. Have a contact respond as agreed and record what you see, not what you hope. A notification sent is not the same as being read or prompting intervention.
Check offline and fallback
When network is absent, a confirmed command stays stored locally and may retry in background when the system permits. Do not call it delivered until the outcome is checked. Test the agreed alternative, such as a manual call or SMS, without creating a second command.
Stop, cancel and improve
Announce the test has ended, ask contacts what they received and delete unnecessary notes. If a step fails, correct recipients, wording or fallback and repeat calmly. Do not force-close the app after an offline confirmation: let the planned retry proceed.
