Live location or current location: which should you share?

Published · 2 min read

A point sent once and a location updated over time answer different questions. Choose the information that actually helps your meeting.

Feature availability

Instructions for My Safe Circle describe version 2.2, still in development and beta, and not released in app stores. Installed versions may lack the feature; interface and behaviour may change during testing.

A point is not a live feed

Current location records the device position when captured. The message stays unchanged as you move. A live session can update the point while connectivity, permissions and the operating system allow it.

Choose for the task

A single point may suffice for an entrance where you will wait. To meet someone moving, agree a short live session. Confirming that a journey is complete needs an arrival message instead.

Two different meetings

Outside a library, name the entrance as well as sending the point. Walking towards a car park, state your destination and share for the necessary time. Tell the recipient whether to follow a static message or a session.

Check capture time

Opening an old message now does not make its location current. My Safe Circle shows time since capture separately from remaining session duration. Coordinates do not establish health or intentions.

Guides for your next step

To set up a session, read duration and recipients. For update issues, use the screen-off checks. For data after the session, see Stop, consent withdrawal and deletion.

Frequently asked questions

Does current location follow my movements?

No. A point sent once does not update as you move. Updates require an active live session.

Is the feature already in app stores?

No. This guide describes version 2.2, still in development and beta; it does not promise availability in the published app.

Does a live session guarantee someone will act?

No. Sharing a point does not confirm a contact is watching the map or can respond. Agree separately who will respond.
