Live location for running and cycling: prepare first
Set sharing before exercise, put the phone away and agree an end message. The map is neither a training log nor a fall detector.
Feature availability
Instructions for My Safe Circle describe version 2.2, still in development and beta, and not released in app stores. Installed versions may lack the feature; interface and behaviour may change during testing.
Define the contact’s task
Are you organising a meeting or temporarily showing your point? Explain the task. Recording workouts, speed or performance needs a dedicated tool; the manual assigns none of these functions to live sharing.
Set up before moving
Choose suitable duration, approved contacts and context before leaving. Store the phone so you can reach it when stopped. Do not consult the map or change settings while cycling.
Test with the phone stored
In a safe setting, try a short locked-screen session and check capture age with the recipient. Results apply to those conditions; coverage and power settings may change on the outing.
Return and detours
Agree an end-of-activity message. Expiry or a stationary point proves neither a fall nor workout completion. Stop safely to communicate a detour; for real help use the appropriate channel.
Guides for your next step
To set up a session, read duration and recipients. For update issues, use the screen-off checks. For data after the session, see Stop, consent withdrawal and deletion.
Frequently asked questions
Does sharing detect a bike fall?
No. The manual describes no automatic fall detection for this feature. A stationary point has many possible causes.
Is the feature already in app stores?
No. This guide describes version 2.2, still in development and beta; it does not promise availability in the published app.
Does a live session guarantee someone will act?
No. Sharing a point does not confirm a contact is watching the map or can respond. Agree separately who will respond.
