Live location without permanent retention

Published · 2 min read

You can share live without enabling permanent retention. Check account consent: skipping activation does not withdraw a choice already active.

Feature availability

Instructions for My Safe Circle describe version 2.2, still in development and beta, and not released in app stores. Installed versions may lack the feature; interface and behaviour may change during testing.

Check consent first

In Help and support → Consent and sharing, check the account choice applying across devices. The information notice and session are not separate consents for retaining the final point.

Continue without enabling is not withdrawal

The manual says Continue without enabling neither grants nor withdraws consent. If already active, it does not switch it off. Use consent management and verify server completion.

Sharing without permanence

Live sharing still works without active retention. The session remains accessible for at most 7 days after ending; Stop is not immediate erasure. Its message follows session rules too.

Limits of the choice

Withdrawal, contact removal and deleting separate copies differ. Independent screenshots and exports cannot be remotely erased. For complete deletion, use the dedicated guide.

Guides for your next step

To set up a session, read duration and recipients. For update issues, use the screen-off checks. For data after the session, see Stop, consent withdrawal and deletion.

Frequently asked questions

Can I skip activation to withdraw old consent?

No. That button does not withdraw existing consent. Check the account choice and use the dedicated consent controls.

Is the feature already in app stores?

No. This guide describes version 2.2, still in development and beta; it does not promise availability in the published app.

Does a live session guarantee someone will act?

No. Sharing a point does not confirm a contact is watching the map or can respond. Agree separately who will respond.
