Separate encryption from the whole path

WhatsApp states that personal messages use end-to-end encryption. Telegram uses synchronised cloud chats and offers individual Secret Chats with end-to-end encryption, not group chats. A fair comparison says which conversation is actually used: calling an entire service “private” hides important boundaries.

Check recipients and groups

An encrypted message is still shared with every recipient, group member and authorised device. Check who can add people, forward content, take screenshots or see previews. A family group is not automatically restricted: reduce membership and use a separate chat for information that genuinely needs sharing.

Assess backups, accounts and devices

Chat encryption does not automatically describe backups, lock-screen notifications, linked devices or account access. Review cloud copies, phone lock, open sessions and account recovery. Telegram cloud chats sync across devices; an individual Secret Chat has a different boundary and does not turn into a group conversation.

Remember metadata and permissions

Times, numbers, groups, contacts, notifications and device data can reveal context without exposing text. Grant location, contacts, photos and microphone only when needed and review permissions. Do not post screenshots or invitation links in open spaces where unintended people can copy them.

Do not automatically attribute end-to-end encryption, anonymity or absolute deletion to My Safe Circle. Check its documents and manual for collected data, recipients, account and device behaviour and stated limits. A safety app is not an emergency service, and a privacy label cannot replace evidence about its actual path.

Choose for the actual situation

For each check-in, record purpose, recipients, data, backups, accessibility and a phone alternative. Test the configuration on real devices, then remove what is unnecessary. The best choice is the one the group understands and accepts, with a human plan if a message fails or is misunderstood.

Temporary live sharing in 2.2

App Store lists 2.2.0 as released on 5 October 2026, checked on 9 October. Check your installed version and availability in your platform’s store.

An optional point attached to All OK, SOS or a reply remains separate from live sharing. Sending a signal does not automatically start a session: even after SOS, separate confirmation is required. Location proves neither health, arrival nor response.

Stop ends updates but does not withdraw account retention consent. With consent, the latest data may remain until withdrawal, contact removal or account deletion; without retention, the session is accessible for at most 7 days after ending. Independent screenshots cannot be remotely erased.
