Cannot start live location: what is missing?
Is the start button disabled? Check version, permission and recipients before investigating why map updates might be missing.
Feature availability
Instructions for My Safe Circle describe version 2.2, still in development and beta, and not released in app stores. Installed versions may lack the feature; interface and behaviour may change during testing.
Check the version first
If the command is absent, check the version: live sharing is described for beta 2.2. A feature absent from the published app is not a malfunction. Avoid packages from unverified sources.
Check missing permission
Without location access, the manual describes a disabled start button and instructions. Follow the proposed settings path and return to the app. Permissions are checked again, but sharing does not start automatically.
Check selected recipients
No recipients also disables starting. Choose approved contacts and check the summary. A pending invitation is insufficient. While-in-use access allows starting; background access concerns continuity and recovery.
Starting and updating differ
If the session starts but the point stays old, use the update guide: network, system and battery need different checks. For a persistent start failure, record version, message and steps without public coordinates.
Guides for your next step
To set up a session, read duration and recipients. For update issues, use the screen-off checks. For data after the session, see Stop, consent withdrawal and deletion.
Frequently asked questions
Is background permission always needed to start?
The manual allows starting with while-in-use access. Background access is recommended for continuity and recovery, without guarantees.
Is the feature already in app stores?
No. This guide describes version 2.2, still in development and beta; it does not promise availability in the published app.
Does a live session guarantee someone will act?
No. Sharing a point does not confirm a contact is watching the map or can respond. Agree separately who will respond.
