Live location groups: who to include and when

Published · 2 min read

Family, friends and travel companions need not receive every session. Organise reusable groups and check the audience before sharing.

Feature availability

Instructions for My Safe Circle describe version 2.2, still in development and beta, and not released in app stores. Installed versions may lack the feature; interface and behaviour may change during testing.

A group for the context

Use clear names such as travel or family. Include only approved contacts who accept the role. Do not choose everyone by habit when only travel companions need the information.

Beta limits

The 2.2 manual describes up to 10 groups with Premium, each with at most 20 approved contacts. Manage them from Circle or selection. Check limits against the version being tested.

Reuse is not synchronisation

A group may help All OK, SOS and live, but selections stay independent. SOS applies group contacts in settings and saves; live selects its audience before starting.

Changes after starting

Editing a group does not change an already-started live session’s recipients. A membership edit is not proof of session access revocation. Review the audience for each new session and follow contact removal rules.

Guides for your next step

To set up a session, read duration and recipients. For update issues, use the screen-off checks. For data after the session, see Stop, consent withdrawal and deletion.

Frequently asked questions

Does a newly added friend see the current session?

The manual says group edits do not change an existing session’s audience. Check recipients when preparing the next session.

Is the feature already in app stores?

No. This guide describes version 2.2, still in development and beta; it does not promise availability in the published app.

Does a live session guarantee someone will act?

No. Sharing a point does not confirm a contact is watching the map or can respond. Agree separately who will respond.
