A quarterly scorecard for three check-in tools
A useful quarterly review compares WhatsApp, Telegram and My Safe Circle with the same questions and tests, rather than manufacturing a score to name a winner. Record version, country and date; keep evidence about receipts, accessibility, consent, costs and backups. The result is a documented decision, not a promise that fits every family.
Define scope and purpose
Write which check-in you are reviewing, for whom, on which devices and with what human alternative. Do not mix a family chat, urgent signal and reminder into one vote. Each tool must face the same use case; undocumented behaviour stays “not verified”, not an arbitrary zero.
Use observable criteria
Ask repeatable questions: does the message send, what state appears, who can take ownership, what data is required, how is it withdrawn and what does it cost? Run the same test on all three
Prepare the same harmless text and the same two consenting recipients. Measure send, delivery, reading, reply and backup handover without calling public services. Repeat on real devices and an ordinary network; mark what is not comparable, such as a premium function or different channel.
Dates and versions make comparison honest
Record operating system, app version, country, plan and test date. Official pages describe different boundaries: Telegram separates cloud chats and individual Secret Chats; WhatsApp documents encryption for personal messages. Do not extend one result to every future version, account or device.
Record consent, accessibility and receipts
Ask participants to accept purpose, data and frequency; test text size, language, hearing, notifications and an alternative channel. Distinguish delivery, reading and human ownership: no receipt proves safety or understanding. Include people who cannot use the app without inventing a penalty score.
Record cost, backups and the decision
State observed price, required plan and what remains without subscription; for My Safe Circle, the manual and code distinguish Premium features such as creating a Come Stai check-in. Review backups, linked devices and account recovery. Close with “fit”, “review” or “not verified”, plus the next test date.

No. It can show which tool fits a purpose and which points remain unverified.
Can I compare a free chat with a Premium feature?
Yes, if you state plan, cost and tested capability; absence from the free plan is not a universal defect.
Can a receipt prove safety?
