Telegram checks, WhatsApp receipts and SOS status
Before choosing, decide which information you need: sent, delivered, read or explicitly answered. Telegram, WhatsApp and My Safe Circle expose different states; none turns a check or receipt into proof that a person understood, accepted or completed a task.
Telegram: one check and two checks
Telegram’s FAQ says one check means the message reached the cloud and the recipient may have been notified; two checks mean the conversation was opened and the message read. There is no separate state for “understood” or “will handle it”, so a read message needs an agreed human reply.
WhatsApp: delivery differs from reading
WhatsApp distinguishes two grey checks for delivery from two blue checks for reading, with limits involving settings, group chats and phone availability. A receipt describes the message’s technical path; it does not prove that the content was understood or that anyone accepted responsibility for the next step.
My Safe Circle: receipt, notification and outcome
A My Safe Circle alert can organise recipients and an agreed outcome: the manual distinguishes preparation, successful sending, a partial outcome and an unconfirmed state. A server receipt or notification is not task ownership; without an explicit human reply, the outcome remains uncertain rather than successful.
Define the meaning before the check
For each scenario, record “delivered”, “read” and “replied” as different results. Agree a short ownership phrase, a realistic deadline and a backup contact. If nobody replies, follow the agreed handoff; do not turn silence into a diagnosis, a refusal or an automatic conclusion about danger.
Limit recipients and data
Sending to one person may be enough when that person accepted the role and another channel is available. Limit details, attachments and location to the purpose. Before testing, tell everyone, use fictional data and check who can see the message, retain copies or answer on someone else’s behalf.
Know when to change channel
Connectivity, battery, notifications, settings and human availability can make every state ambiguous. Test a chat, a reply and a handoff without staging an emergency. For immediate danger, contact local emergency services directly; 112 is free in the European Union, but an app cannot replace them.
