Live location after SOS: does it start automatically?

Published · 2 min read

SOS and a live session are separate actions. In the beta you can start sharing from the receipt, but a separate confirmation is required.

Feature availability

Instructions for My Safe Circle describe version 2.2, still in development and beta, and not released in app stores. Installed versions may lack the feature; interface and behaviour may change during testing.

Separate signal and session

Sending SOS is not automatic live GPS activation. The signal may include its own attached location according to settings. Live sharing requires duration, recipients and confirmation.

From receipt to choice

The 2.2 manual allows starting from the receipt of an SOS sent in the app. Check who will see the session and for how long. Do not assume its audience matches SOS.

Prepare an announced trial

To practise the SOS path, warn contacts and distinguish testing from a real request. To test location alone, start voluntary sharing from Home; no simulated emergency is needed.

A map does not replace contact

An updated point may help a meeting but confirms neither reading, response nor rescue arrival. For immediate danger, contact local emergency services without waiting for someone to open your map.

Guides for your next step

To set up a session, read duration and recipients. For update issues, use the screen-off checks. For data after the session, see Stop, consent withdrawal and deletion.

Frequently asked questions

Does every SOS recipient also receive the live session?

Do not assume that. Check live recipients before its separate confirmation.

Is the feature already in app stores?

No. This guide describes version 2.2, still in development and beta; it does not promise availability in the published app.

Does a live session guarantee someone will act?

No. Sharing a point does not confirm a contact is watching the map or can respond. Agree separately who will respond.
