Report location problems without exposing coordinates

Published · 2 min read

A useful report describes conditions and repeatable steps. You need not publish addresses, routes or contact locations to explain an error.

Feature availability

Instructions for My Safe Circle describe version 2.2, still in development and beta, and not released in app stores. Installed versions may lack the feature; interface and behaviour may change during testing.

Describe an observable symptom

Say whether the command is absent, starting disabled, the point ages or a fresh point is inaccurate. Separate expectation from result: expected start, shown warning, observed capture age.

Use a short record

Device; system and app version; date, time and zone; Wi-Fi or mobile; screen status; permission; power saving; steps. Exclude passwords, codes, tokens and recipient account details.

Make the trial repeatable

Change one condition and record outcome and interval. For cross-platform issues, include recipient model and version with consent. Do not simulate SOS to test only sharing.

Protect attachments

Redact names, personal messages, coordinates, addresses and recognisable landmarks from screenshots. Prefer the app support channel to public forums. Send precise places only when requested through an appropriate channel.

Guides for your next step

To set up a session, read duration and recipients. For update issues, use the screen-off checks. For data after the session, see Stop, consent withdrawal and deletion.

Frequently asked questions

Must I send all journey coordinates?

No. Start with symptom, times, devices and steps. Precise places should not be public and often are unnecessary for initial checks.

Is the feature already in app stores?

No. This guide describes version 2.2, still in development and beta; it does not promise availability in the published app.

Does a live session guarantee someone will act?

No. Sharing a point does not confirm a contact is watching the map or can respond. Agree separately who will respond.
